Here we bring you the best in your state, so tuck in. Founded in the 1960s, this chain has expanded to over 100 steakhouses across the US, Canada, Mexico and beyond. Serving only the highest quality USDA Prime meat, the steaks here never disappoint. From epic tomahawk rib-eyes to glistening fillets, Ruth's Chris Steak House has a specific broiling and seasoning technique to achieve the best results and all steaks are served sizzling on a 500°F plate – just the way founder Ruth Fertel liked it.
California: CUT, Beverly Hills
Legendary celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck is behind this swish minimalist establishment at the Beverly Wilshere hotel, which is known for food of the highest quality. Consistently ranked among the best steak restaurants in America, CUT's Michelin-starred kitchen cooks up some incredible dishes. The Wagyu carpaccio, the bone marrow flan and, of course, the steaks themselves are unlike anywhere else in the country.
Colorado: Guard and Grace, Denver
Chef Troy Guard's version of what a modern steakhouse should be, Guard and Grace focuses on wood-fired dishes cooked with quality ingredients. Start with a few tapas-sized starters, like the oak-fired carrots, then move on to the stars of the show – various cuts of USDA Prime, Wagyu and grass-fed beef served with black truffle mac 'n' cheese, foraged mushrooms or cold water lobster tail.

Channelling the vibe of a classic New York steakhouse, David Burke Prime serves seven different cuts aged between 30 and 55 days using its patented aging process, which includes a room lined with Himalayan salt. It's fair to say these guys are pretty serious about their steak.
Delaware: Walter's Steakhouse, Wilmington

A top stop on Delaware's Culinary Trail, Walter's is an unmissable experience. It's a favourite among locals thanks to its massive cuts of prime rib and old-school steakhouse atmosphere, plus servers are friendly and attentive which only adds to the charm. There's a prime rib night on Fridays, while Tuesdays and Wednesdays are dedicated to the 11oz New York strip.
District of Columbia: Medium Rare, Washington
There's only one option for dinner at Medium Rare, but people keep coming back for more. The much-loved prix fixe dinner menu includes culotte steak, frites and secret sauce, with a mixed green salad and rustic bread. Be warned – a second helping of frites is absolutely free. If you're stopping by for brunch, it's a choice between classic steak and eggs or steak frites with bottomless mimosas.

Right at the heart of Portland's booming culinary scene, Timber Steakhouse is a modern affair with a rustic farmhouse interior and beautiful patio dining area. The Black Angus steak tips with wild mushrooms have become somewhat legendary, but it's the tender filet mignon that's the top order.
Maryland: The Prime Rib, Baltimore
Although Maryland is better known for crab cakes and Old Bay, there are still many great steakhouses, most prominently The Prime Rib. This old-school spot in Baltimore sports a leopard-print carpet and a live pianist that will take you straight back to the 1940s Hollywood. The menu is, of course, steak-focused and the prime rib is especially popular, but this being Maryland you can still get award-winning crab cakes.
Massachusetts: Grill 23 & Bar, Boston

One of the city's most storied restaurants, London Chop House was the place were auto barons, public officials and celebrities went to dine and be seen in Detroit's heyday. Less than 10 years ago the restaurant was restored to its original splendour and is now the top spot for an exquisite meal. Serving a variety of cuts, the restaurant finishes its quality steaks with garlic butter. Celebrating a special occasion? There are oysters Rockefeller, steak tartare or caviar service to kick dinner off.
Minnesota: Murray's, Minneapolis
Since it opened in 1946, Murray's has remained a charming family-owned restaurant that's a destination for locals and travellers alike, who come here to enjoy a sirloin known as the Silver Butter Knife Steak for Two. The meat is supposed to be so tender it can be cut with a butter knife and to prove it, waiters usually slice it tableside. Murray's French onion soup, crab cakes and raspberry pie all get the thumbs up from diners too.
Mississippi: Doe's Eat Place, Greenville
An unassuming white wood house in Greenville, Doe's Eat Place has been around since 1941 when Dominick 'Doe' Signa opened it to serve his wife's hot tamales. In the back, Doe grilled steaks until the place became so popular, he turned it into a steakhouse. There are now several other locations throughout the South, but the real Greenville experience is unbeatable. Although the steaks are obviously the star attraction, you should still try the incredible tamales.
Missouri: Citizen Kane's Steakhouse, Kirkwood

No fuss, just steak – that should be the slogan of Citizen Kane's. Here, you get exactly what you've come for, namely an amazing selection of steaks that are all served with a classic side dish and salad – customers particularly love the rib-eye. Housed in an old Victorian home on the outskirts of St Louis, it's everything you'd expect from a proper steakhouse.
Montana: Lolo Creek Steakhouse, Lolo
Eight miles south of Missoula in a rustic log cabin, you'll find Lolo Creek Steakhouse – a fuss-free steakhouse where the meat is cooked over an open-pit barbecue and served with classic sides like baked potato and garlic bread. Often named among the best steakhouses in the state, it was also featured on Food Network and is a much-loved destination for both locals and tourists.

There's also an excellent raw bar for special occasions and the bacon-wrapped scallops are nothing short of spectacular.

Located inside Caesar's Casino & Hotel, the elegant steakhouse offers an award-winning wine list, exceptional service and USDA prime-aged steaks that often come served with the freshest seafood. The Cajun rib-eye steak is the top order here, with the lobster bisque also getting a thumbs up from diners.
New Mexico: Black Angus Steakhouse, Albuquerque

If you're hungry for steak in Albuquerque, this is where you should get your meat fix. Serving hand-cut steaks that have been aged for at least 21 days, Black Angus Steakhouse pays homage to its cattle rancher roots and only serves certified Angus beef or USDA Choice steaks and burgers. There are also plenty of great sides, salads and seafood to choose from, as well as a create-your-own margarita bar.
New York: Peter Luger Steak House, New York City
Opened in the 1880s, this Michelin-starred Williamsburg chophouse has received its fair share of criticism and scathing reviews, but it's still always busy and loved by diners. Peter Luger serves dry-aged USDA Prime steaks alongside incredible German fried potatoes and creamed spinach. And when you think you couldn't possibly have any more food, you'll always find room for the apple strudel.

The tasteful décor and quality produce of Peter Vauthy's Cleveland restaurant Red, the Steakhouse proved so popular he's since opened two more outposts that are equally as loved. The surf and turf here is said to be America's best and there's a big menu of certified Angus beef. You shouldn't leave without a taste of Peter's Brussels sprouts – served with pancetta, garlic and shallots, the dish is sure to turn any sprout-haters into lovers.

Not to be confused with Cattleman's Steakhouse in Fabens, Texas (which is, incidentally, also excellent), this Oklahoma old-timer (it's more than 100 years-old) was allegedly won in a game of dice. Locals, cowboys and visitors adore its no-nonsense approach to cooking local country-style steak and the prices are equally down to earth.

A relatively recent addition to the Beaverton dining scene on the outskirts of Portland, Grill68 Steakhouse comes from the owner of nearby Mexican restaurant Casa Lola. The certified Angus beef steaks leave the kitchen dripping in herb garlic butter, and the small but perfectly formed menu offers a choice of mashed potatoes or sautéed green beans on the side. The burrata salad is a must to start with – it comes dressed with a surprisingly delicious mint and chilli vinaigrette.
Pennsylvania: Barclay Prime, Philadelphia
Stephen Starr's attractive chophouse Barclay Prime is cool, chic and a big name both in Philly and beyond, where diners are enticed with a noteworthy meat selection. Ranging from a delectable filet mignon to a massive 32oz porterhouse, it's a meat-lover's paradise. The truffle mac gets a big thumbs up from diners as the best side to pair with your steak.

Food aside, diners praise the excellent service and pleasant ambiance.
Tennessee: Kayne Prime, Nashville
Kayne Prime serves food that makes people happy. The menu is filled with all sorts of interesting things – we're talking popcorn buttered lobster and maple cotton candy bacon. Although top-notch dining here won't come cheap, you really won't mind splashing out when the steaks are that good too.
Texas: Killen's Steakhouse, Pearland

Led by Le Cordon Bleu-trained executive chef Ron Killen, Killen's is an elegant place to relish perfectly cooked hand-cut steaks. From wet-aged USDA Prime beef to Snake River Farms Wagyu, the selection of steaks is almost overwhelming, with everything your heart (and stomach) might desire. The steaks are accompanied by a great selection of sides and excellent starters – we have our eye on the Korean barbecue-marinated Wagyu skewers.

There's a lot of beauty in Maddox Ranch House's simplicity. At this friendly, family dining destination, the food is just really nicely done, no bells and whistles attached. A solid selection of steaks come with veg, potatoes, soup and salad or seafood cocktail all included – something your wallet will certainly appreciate. And don't forget to save room for the homemade pies and cakes.
Vermont: Guild Tavern, South Burlington
A classic New England tavern with a strong focus on farm-to-table dining, Guild Tavern is praised for its welcoming service, down-to-earth atmosphere and superb food. The steaks – everything from petite sirloin to hearty rib-eye – are cooked on a wood-burning grill and come with creamy buttermilk whipped potatoes, roasted vegetables and buttery béarnaise. To start, diners recommend the steak tartare, served with crispy potato rösti.

The menu shines with top-quality steaks, first-class seafood starters and a chateaubriand for two, carved tableside.
West Virginia: Prime 44 West, White Sulphur Springs
Dedicated to the NBA legend and West Virginia native Jerry West, this is a proper old-school steakhouse. So old-school it even has an adjacent cigar room, jackets for men are required and the only accepted shade of denim is dark. Dress code aside, the celebrated menu offers a wide selection of steak cuts as well as a Wests' Favourites section that includes lobster popcorn, a 44oz porterhouse steak for two and mac 'n' cheese.
